NY's Capital District
SUMMER TRAIL RUN SERIES
Produced by the Albany Running Exchange

Thanks to everyone for making 2024 a wonderful 20th Summer of Trail Running Fun!

The longest running and largest regular "non-race" running event in the region!

General Information

WHAT IS IT?

The Summer Trail Run Series (STRS) was created in the summer of 2004 by the Albany Running Exchange as an opportunity for the members of the ARE to come together for weekly, non-competitive trail runs.
These are group runs with no clock, no awards... and no fee*!
It is a chance to take advantage of the beautiful summer weather here in Albany, and to see all there is to see closer to home than you may think.

*Non-members can attend but are encouraged to join the ARE ($20 annually).

WHAT'S THE COURSE?

Each week, the ARE marks a 2m to 4m loop. Participants complete as many loops as they like. Generally at about 7:15pm (45 minutes), volunteers go out and pick up the flags marking the course.

WHEN & WHERE?

2025 Details coming in the spring.

The 2024 series goes from Thursday, May 30 through Thursday, August 29. The runs are held every Thursday at 6:30pm*, each week alternating venue and course. Check the schedule above for each week's location. *On the FINAL night of each summer, the run starts at 6pm.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Runners of all age and abilities and encouraged to attend. Walkers are welcome too. Please note that dogs are welcome to participate per park rules but we do ask that you only bring your dog if he/she truly is good around other people and other dogs. Jogging strollers are not recommended due to trail conditions but some of the parks have terrain suitable for their use.

ANYTHING ELSE?

Participants are asked to sign-in upon arrival and sign-out when done running.
Water is provided each week. Every few weeks, we either host a (free) BBQ/pot-luck dinner or hold the run at a location that serves food (for purchase).
Watch out for creepy crawlers. As it is on trails, in addition to being aware of the nature of terrain, be prepared to encounter a variety of insects and animal life. If you have an allergy to bee stings, please bring an epi-pen. Be sure to check yourself for ticks after each.
